Chinese Business Culture – Life in China

19 Dec 2011 Love

In Chinese business culture, drinking plays a prominent role with many Chinese companies hiring what amount to professional drinkers, giving them professional job titles. girl web cam Many Chinese people in professional jobs that I met, i.e. adult singles chat in accountancy and management positions, often have to accept the drinking culture in order to be accepted and to progress in their company, hence it is often necessary to put the drinking culture ahead of the direct needs of family sometimes.

Chinese people are very family orientated people and they care very much about their families. It is more a case that most companies expect their employees to conform to the company culture and to do well in a company, it is important to fit in with these ideologies. Many of my students spoke of the way in which it was necessary to entertain business clients with a good evening of drinking and a visit to a singing room in order to get a deal done. This use of alcohol in business seems to be changing gradually with several Chinese business people telling me that they are now tiring of the heavy drinking culture, and choosing instead to entertain clients out on the golf course. As someone who enjoys social drinking, I kind of like the idea of having a few drinks with clients at the companies expense and it is perhaps true that it is a great opportunity to learn about the real character of the client/s when they are drunk. The problem for many people though, seems to be the high amount of alcohol drank during these meetings and the difficulty of saying NO if you do not feel like drinking.

In Finland I found that people drank vodka so fast that it was as though their lives depended on it and that the girls drink as much as the guys. Winters in Finland are long and cold and drinking is almost considered a pastime to get through the harsh winter. As a result of this you will not be surprised to hear that alcoholism is a big problem in Finland. Finland incidentally, was the first country in the world to allow all females to vote (New Zealand would have been first but excluded the Maori women), and these days the Finnish women account for over 40% of women in the parliament. Finnish women can handle drink almost on a par with the men. In Ireland, even the girls have beer bellies, not just the guys. Take a walk around the capital city Dublin, on a Friday or Saturday night, and you will see plenty of girls drinking Guinness by the pint. Drinking eight or ten pints of beer on a good night was normal and I have to say, there were some good nights out in Dublin. Drinking is an integral part of the Irish culture and Guinness, one of the Irish beers, is now popular worldwide.

The passion for alcohol is also noticeable in Chinese business culture and a source of pride to many. When visiting drinking places in Beijing on Friday nights, it was common to see groups of co-workers including the women, drinking rounds of shots. The co-workers often play drinking games and seemed to drink copious amounts of alcohol. Many businessmen and businesswomen have turned up at my morning classes still suffering from a hangover from four or five before. In many cases they make it clear that they did not want to go drinking, but they had to for the sake of their job and future promotions. Conformity in many ways I am told, dictates that one should not leave the drinking session before their senior (higher manager) leaves. Drinking in China though, is limited to an extent in some situations. Drinking alcohol for example does not tend to occur very much in the home; Universities tend not to have bars directly on campus; and places such as singing rooms are mostly alcohol free. There is no denying though, that both food and alcohol are a definite part of the vibrant Chinese culture.

Never Gift Pain on Valentine’s Day

22 Nov 2011 Relationships

Can a day that is supposed to make world go wild with passion, pain a person? That sounds surprising, am I correct? How can Valentine’s Day give pain? Yes. It can. And the pain can be many times more than the pleasure anyone can get on this day.

For a lover, who lived for the beloved, who breathed the air thinking of the beloved, who did everything in life thinking of the beloved and who shared all with the beloved, this day is nothing but a very sharp and unbearable pain if the beloved is lost. Imagine the pain of the parents on the birthday of their lost child. The same day, that used to give them only pleasure, gives nothing but so much pain that they cannot bear that. They will cry till no tear is left. Pain is bad. Pain is very bad.

Real pain that one gets for a lifetime does not heal over a lifetime. Many people say that time is a great healer. Ask one who is dying every minute if this is true? This is not true for those who are drowned in pain forever. Valentine’s Day brings back the memories of the lost love like a flood. Call it a tsunami of pain. The waves engulf everything and take away the will of living forever. Such a lover looks not at the Rose, but surely feels the pricking of thorns. The memories of time that they shared, of the walks together, of fun, of travel, of small escapades and love, everything that made a life worth living makes the same life a hell from which there is no escape.

Life is good for the lucky ones. Those who are gifted pain find life unbearable. The feeling of emptiness of heart cannot ever be explained. One has to live this pain to know about it. The pain is a gift from the beloved who goes away, leaving a body with a beating heart, and fills every beat with a sharp pang of pain. You will find different options of buying and sending gifts to your beloved. You will never be able to buy this gift of pain. For gifting this pain, you will have to first share great time with your beloved, enslave them in your love and then throw them away from your life. After that they will live with this gift of pain forever and much more so on the Valentine’s Day.

Movie Review: What’s Your Number? (2011)

22 Nov 2011 Readiness

Although ‘What’s Your Number?’ is impossibly generic, hopelessly contrived and formulaic beyond reason, there’s still something appealing about Anna Faris landing the lead role in her own romantic comedy. She’s primarily known for her goofiness, likely never to shake her Scary Movie image, and is no different here. However, the premise is that of a typical romance; her dumbfounded aloofness, naive dewy eyes, and perpetually cheerful attitude add a certain spontaneity and element of surprise. Just as anything can happen in a Scary Movie, so too can random, idiotic, and completely out-of-place events occur without warning when Faris is at the helm of a straightforward comedy.

Ally Darling (Anna Faris) is becoming concerned that she might never find “Mr. Right.” Her sister Daisy (Ari Graynor) is getting married and her mother Ava (Blythe Danner) seems insistent that Ally move forward with her life as well. During a ride on the subway, she spies a magazine article revealing the national average of sexual partners for women: 10.5. Her friends range between four and nine, while she worries about her seemingly large number of 19. She decides not to surpass 20, which the reporter analyzed as a breaking point that finds women unable to land a husband. Her very next beau must be the man she’ll be with forever.

She has a habit of trying too hard to impress her male companions, worries about how others might view her promiscuity, winds up accidentally sleeping with the boss who just fired her (#20), and loathes her next door neighbor, Colin Shea (Chris Evans, graduating from superhero to an unemployed musician fancying strumming in nothing but briefs), who beds a new woman every night. Nonetheless, she hatches a plot to locate all of her ex-boyfriends to see which ones might have evolved into husband material. She enlists the help of Colin in exchange for an apartment to hide in while he waits for his previous nights’ conquest to vacate in the morning, never to be seen again (his “number” is in the several hundreds).

There’s nothing new about the story, which plays out in an absolutely expected fashion. Ally and Colin spend an ample amount of time together, the last ex on her list is wealthy and attractive (money is sexy) and adored by her mother, and slowly but surely, she falls for the kind-hearted boy next door. This unfolding of events couldn’t have been more nonexclusive, filled with sexual jokes, Facebook/Twitter references, suggestive music butting into the frame, romantic comedy cliches, and both Faris and Evans in a constant state of undress (not so much for humor as just for the sake of nakedness). Most of the fun comes from discovering what farcical situation has overcome each of Ally’s former lovers. Fortunately, a few ridiculous flashbacks allow Faris to play dress-up and shed some light on her previous periods of absurdity, and some fleeting verbal humor pokes its way into the most inopportune moments, creating impulsive genuine hilarity. What’s Your Number? wouldn’t possess the same lowered expectations and unlikely amusement had it not been for Faris, scripted to say off-color things viewers wish other contemporary comedy heroines would blurt out on a whim.

Heart Throb Gregg Sulkin Talks New Movie White Frog

22 Nov 2011 Online Dating

As Mason Greybeck on Disney Channel’s Wizard’s of Waverly Place, Gregg Sulkin cemented his teen heartthrob status. Now that the show has come to an end, the actor has moved on, currently hard at work on the set of his new movie, White Frog.

But if you think that Gregg is merely just an actor, think again, because he’s also passionate about the more important things in life- like giving back. In doing so, Gregg is auctioning up an opportunity to have lunch with him, with proceeds going to Oxfam International.

I recently had the chance to chat with Gregg to ask him about the auction, his new movie, and the Wizards of Waverly Place. I also asked him a few burning fan questions…

STELLA: I wanted to get started by asking you to tell us a little about your auction and charity, Oxfam.

GREGG: Basically, growing up, and being a teenage kid, I’ve always been interested in charity. And one of the benefits of being on a TV show and having a fan base, you kind of have the power to spread news around. So, the auction is for Oxfam. I’m sure you’ve heard about the famine in Somalia, and so we’re trying to raise as much money as possible for people in Somalia, people in Africa, and right now I think the auction is around $9,000 with more time left to bid on it. And if you can’t afford to bid, you can still try and raise awareness about it via social media, like twitter and Facebook. You can also donate to Oxfam, whether it’s one dollar or ten dollars, every bit helps and contributes to helping those who are less fortunate.

STELLA: You’re currently shooting White Frog, can you tell us a little bit about the movie and what we can expect?

GREGG: You can expect a lot of smiles. It deals with a lot of issues families go through, one of them being sexuality. We’ve got an amazing cast, we’ve got Margaret Cho, Joan Chen, BD Wong… We have people who have been in the industry for a long time along with the up and coming teen actors, so it’s a great atmosphere on the set. The movie centers around a kid who dies, and he’s gay, and it’s all about how his family and friends deal with that; it’s a very, very heartfelt movie.

STELLA: I have to ask about Wizards of Waverly Place, of course… What was it like filming those last few episodes?

GREGG: It was emotional. Personally, coming on the Disney Channel was a great opportunity. I wasn’t there for years and years, but it was nice. It was nice doing a sitcom and I enjoyed my time there… I think it was time for me to grow up, and I learned a lot, but it was time to move on.

STELLA: Well, we have a few quick fan questions per the request of our readers, and a popular one was: What is your favorite color?

GREGG: As far as colors I like to wear- I like grays or dark blues. Black and white is cool; I do wear black a lot.

STELLA: Do you know any other languages?

GREGG: No, I mean, I studied French in school, but my dad always said I speak two languages: English and Rubbish.

STELLA: [laughs] Do you play any musical instruments?

GREGG: I’m not like Bon Jovi or Led Zeppelin, but I’ve got a bit of rhythm, so pop music guitar maybe, but I’m focused on acting.

How To Create The Right Brush Effect In Digital Painting

22 Nov 2011 Love

With the success of the smartphones and tablets, digital graphical and painting activities become more popular. Besides watching videos or editing pictures, painting can be considered as the most creative activity on mobile digital devices.

Digital painting brings to us numbers of powerful tools and features. Many digital painting techniques don’t exist in traditional painting art. We can see lots of digital artists creating incredible artworks, with awesome effects and colors.

Starting on personal computers creations, with the booming of mobile digital devices (smartphones and tablets) digital painting becomes now more and more popular amongst artists, designers and art lovers. Painting applications running on mobile devices become more versatile, and also more powerful.

Besides basic painting applications for kids or absolute beginners, high quality professional applications can be found on the market. The professional application level must offer more options and features to the users. But with more options and features, the applications become more sophisticated and more complicate to use.

In this article I’ll talk about the topic which I do consider to be the heart of painting applications: the brush effects. I’ll not enumerate the thousands different models of brush heads. In fact I’ll try to explain how they work and how they are organized. Then how you can take advantage on mobile digital painting.

THE BASIS

Basically, it’s easy to understand the mechanism of a brush stroke:

1/ Take a basic image, like a circle.

2/ Then print it once on the screen: you get a printed circle.

3/ Following a straight line, print the image several times: you have several lined up circles. The spaces between the circles is still large.

4/ Now close up the circles until they overlap each other: finally you get a straight line… made with circles.

MORE OPTIONS

On the base of the brush stroke made with circles, we can add some variations of its aspect:

1/ The size: many applications give the possibility to adjust the size of the brush with a cursor (or any other suitable tool). You can also find some applications, for a reason of simplicity, preset all the brush sizes, then the user cannot adjust them, but can select between several preselected brushes according to their size.

All the 2 solutions have its advantages, it’s a question of developer’s choice.

2/ The opacity (color saturation): this parameter will add or remove transparency to the colors. To fade out a color, you just add more transparency. And with 0% of transparency, the color is totally opaque (100% saturation).

3/ The space between 2 brush heads: this parameter can get you confused with the opacity adjustment. In fact, visually opacity and spacing produce the same effect, but they are totally different. Why spacing produce opacity? If you overlay several low-density images, you’ll obviously obtain a darker image. In the other hand, if you increase the opacity (saturation) of a low-density image, it darkens too.

Practically, according to the wanted effect, you have to find the correct balance between opacity and spacing. If you want more transparent colors, spacing adjustment can be done first, then add or remove opacity. Just keep in mind that adding opacity will remove the transparency of colors.

Just one more remark about spacing: the more you overlay the brush heads, the more image duplication you’ll get, and the more your device will slower down. It’s mechanical. Then sometimes you’ll find some sophisticate brush style drawing with a lag behind your finger.

To summarize this, the best procedure to manage the brushes is to adjust orderly the 3 parameters: first adjust the brush size, second select the spacing rate, third choose the opacity.

BRUSH FLUIDITY.

The best way to make the brushes less responsive is to adjust the spacing at the smallest size. Indeed, the worse brush setting is: opacity and size at maximum, spacing at minimum. Then low speed and high darkness are guaranteed.

But a too small brush size is not always best for fluidity, it depends on the form of the brush. Each user will find his own adjustments. Personally I feel more comfortable with a light but fluent brush, even with a big sized one. I prefer to make several small strokes than a large one.

BRUSH STROKES QUALITY

All painting applications don’t have the same quality of brush strokes. A brush stroke can be defined by 3 particularities: responsiveness, smoothness and dynamic brush head effects.

1) Responsiveness: is the short delay between the finger speed and the painted stroke on the screen. On the same device, two applications can have two very different speeds of brush strokes.

2) Smoothness: there is an easy test you can make. Open your painting app, take a brush or a pencil, and quickly draw a circle on your device’s screen. With low quality painting applications, the strokes will show broken lines, like a train running inside a curve. These broken lines will disappear when smoothness is added to the strokes.

3) Brush heads: all brushes don’t have the same optical effects. These effects are created by 2 elements: the form of the head, and the dynamic effects. These 2 elements could be added one by one or all together.

In fact, brush heads are not only made with simple shapes like circle, square, triangle… Their forms are very rich and various.

Brush dynamic effect is about the quantity of color loaded in the brush and the different movements given to the brush in the same single stroke (example: the jitter effect which throws the brush head at random over and below the line of followed by the stroke).

All these advanced particularities make the difference between low quality painting applications and the professional ones.

Artists always create their masterpieces according to the technical evolution. You can see the differences between drawings made with pencils and chalks. The techniques came first, giving more power and possibilities to artists.

Digital painting on PC is widely used by artists and professionals. And now the mobile digital painting is starting strongly, it’ll surely become the next painting technique to master absolutely.

Which Female Libido Enhancer Work Best

22 Nov 2011 Enhancement

Are you aware that female libido enhancers are products that do not only bring back the sex in a relationship? Well, these products offer more than just satisfaction in sex. It brings couples together in a wonderful, intimate experience that allows them to unite physically and emotionally. Sex is very important in every relationship and if women lack the drive to be intimate with their partners, the couple loses the spark between them altogether.

Perhaps one of the inhibitions female libido enhancers put an end to is the low sex drive that most women who are aging feel. Another is that despite the popularity of sexual enhancers for women, many are still scared to try some of them because they fear that they do not come in forms that they would feel comfortable with. However, the reality speaks otherwise. Several different kinds of female libido enhancers are out in the market today that women can freely look into.

One of the most common forms of female enhancers is the pills. If men have the Viagra to help them put themselves together during the sexual intercourse, women also have their counterpart for pills that are specially made to address the needs of women. Kim V Kate: Who Did It Best

22 Nov 2011 Domestic Violence

The Royal Wedding was hyped for months – what would she wear? What would the ceremony be like? Media swarms and speculations; predictions on everything from designer to how trends would follow for brides to come. Knock off “replicas” – in a race to be ready to wear and accessible to “everyday” brides (at a nice profit, mind you).

All the hype and it’s hard to tell if I was describing British Royalty or American “Reality Royalty”. So, who won in the battle of wedding of the year? And whose wedding left a bad taste in our mouth?

Well, a guess based on our philosophy would be a safe bet: KATE!

Kate Middleton and Prince William have forever left a legacy. The ability to go over the top (royalty trumps reality in the finance department), and to have the restraint and respect for the economic woes of the world is a truly remarkable characteristic for any wedding; much less one from a modern fairy tale. Though simple, it was elegant and sophisticated. The understated beauty was overwhelming – at least to me.

Mrs. Kardashian-Humphries wanted to out do the Royals, and in my opinion came up short. I was uninspired by the black and white. I know the look was supposed to be “classic old Hollywood”, but it came across in a different way to me. It shows you that there is such a thing as having too much. While monochromatic can be dramatic – tones and textures can give dimension and contrast to an otherwise flat palate. I’m also not on the “it’s OK to wear white to a wedding” boat. Call me old-fashioned but as a guest, if I were requested to wear white or black – I would opt for black with a white accent to break the visual. White parties are for clubs and the South Beach party mindset.

I know, I know – “But Heather! Pippa wore Ivory, and caused a few headlines about her gown.” I know Pippa wore an amazingly flattering ivory gown, but it tastefully mixed conservative with sexy, and next to her sister’s ivory lace gown – they looked regal, and bridal. The Kardashian’s lined in a row looked more like a musical ensemble than the bridal party.

Regardless of your upbringing, remember that your wedding, and all of the details involved, are a reflection of you as a couple. They are the first pages in your legacy as a mister and misses. A wedding should not be about showing off anything other than the story of you, and the love you share.

Remember, a theme should be your inspiration, never the definition. When your guests walk in, they should exclaim “this is exactly who they are a couple.” Not, “oh – it’s another (insert theme) wedding – like the 200 others I saw online, or on the knot.”

Stay Inspired!

What is Fulfillment

22 Nov 2011 Dating

What is the fulfillment? My answer is Love. Well in Romans13:10 it says Love does no harm to its neighbor . Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. It goes on to say in verse 11 and do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

Now look at Colossians 2:9 it says For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity(divinity) lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority, In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. It also says in 1Kings 8:61 But your hearts must be fully committed to the Lord our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time.

Just think for a minute, Jesus Christ who is head over every power and authority, is giving us the fullness of him. Wow!!! What a blessing to be with the powers of all powers, and to have the powers that is in GOD given to us by following his decrees and having strong faith in Jesus Christ. Now look at 2Chronicles it says, For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. Now it says in Isaiah 11:9 They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. We have nothing to fear but Jesus. What a merciful God that he gives us such a blessing. If only everyone in the world would follow his decrees, have strong faith, and be fully committed to him. What a powerful force we will all be in the name of Jesus Christ.

Love Always,

Your Sister in Christ,

Mellody Davis

How to Fix and Repair Your Headlights

22 Nov 2011 Conflict

Basically, fixing and repairing your cars headlights is something everyone can do. You could take your car to your local car dealer and pay hundreds of dollars or you could repair them yourself for as little as $15. I would rather keep my money than make my local dealer rich with their outrageous markups and prices. Here is how to properly evaluate, fix and repair almost any automotive headlight problem.

First, determine what the problem is. Are they dim, not working at all, hard to see with at night, have water inside, failed inspection? If they don’t come on at all either you have a burned out bulb or an electrical problem. An electrical problem can be expensive and very labor intensive to fix – but they are usually vary rare. So lets first look at the bulb. The bulb unscrews out of the back of the headlight lens on most newer cars (on older cars with glass headlights the whole lens is the bulb and you just replace it with a new glass replacement $10 – $20 at Walmart). After removing the bulb, look at it. Does it look burned out? Is it black, melted, discolored? If so, replace with a new one. You can purchase replacements at your local automotive store or Walmart for under $20. Insert the new bulb or bulbs and make sure not to touch the glass part of the bulb with your fingers – the grease we emit on our fingers will cause the bulb to wear more quickly or even blow. After installing the bulb try the lights. 99% of the time this is the reason they will not turn on. If it still doesn’t light you have an electrical problem and this should be referred to your local mechanic.

If you have water in your lens this is caused by a leak, crack, or hole in the lens. With the newer plastic lenses you need to remove the lens and then carefully drill a small hole into the bottom of the lens (be careful not to hit the bulb. Let the water run out and then patch with silicone (easily obtained at Walmart or your local automotive store). Then find the source of the water. Usually the seals start to go bad after 3-5 years. You can cover the seal around the lens with silicone to reseal the lens. If the leak was caused by a crack a clear sealant like urethane can be used to seal the crack or small hole. If it is a large hole it would be best to replace the lens.

The other major problem is cloudy, yellow headlight lenses which can lead to diminished output, poor nighttime visibility and basically an unsafe car. There are now headlight repair, restorer and cleaner kits available to cure this problem. In the past you had to resort to replacing your lenses which can be very expensive – $200+ per lens not including installation and labor at your local car dealer. Now for under $20 you can fully restore your headlight lenses to like new optical clarity and greatly improve your nighttime safety. For more information on these kits please see the link below.

There you have it – the three biggest problems with automotive headlights and how to fix and repair them for greater safety for nighttime driving – and save big by doing it yourself. Please take the time to make your headlights and rest of your car as safe as possible. As having volunteered for a volunteer emergency squad for years I have personally witnessed dozens of fatal crashes that could have easily been avoided by just properly repairing and fixing the headlights. Be safe, drive safe – remember the life you save may be your own. Please pass this around so that it may benefit as many people as possible and increase the safety on our roads.

Role Of Event Management Companies

22 Nov 2011 Commitment

Event management companies, the name itself is suggestive of the work it does i.e. a paid company that does all the work of organizing and event planning. It takes up all the responsibility of handling the minutest details that an event requires. With a bunch of skilled professionals they provide you with the best service at your footstep in your provided budget. But the host should take care to get out each and every detail about the genuineness of the company and whether their offices exist or not. They should ask their friends for assistance or any person who have availed their service.

QUOTES: Ask for quotes from the event management company as it is one way to go through their packages and analyze which one is better than the other.

CHECK THE PROVISION OF FACILITIES: one thing that all hosts think of is to get the best out from the event management companies and to do that you must look into all the facilities and prospects the company claims to provide. Check the venue, catering facility, lightening arrangements etc for your satisfaction as well as to be on a safer side.

COMPLAINT LIST: Avoid trusting a company with a bad track record or complain list. Do not make compromises with your event and immediately go in for another event management company.
